The Earth`s Structure: The Core
The Earth is composed of 3 layers with the center called the core. The core has two pieces, the inner core and the outer core. There are differences in temperature and such, but it is believed that both are made of molten iron. The core is the hottest part of the earth, the inner core hotter than the outer, but in size, the outer is bigger than the inner core.
The Earth`s Structure: The Mantle
The Mantle is the biggest layer of the 3 layers of the Earth. Just like the core, it is made of an inner and a outer, but here the inner is bigger than the outer. Also unlike the core, it is mainly composed of molten rock (lava). This lava is what makes continental drift, which is the base for all earthquakes.
The Earth`s Structure: The Crust
The Crust is the smallest layer of the earth, and the coolest since it is closest to space. The crust is the layer that humans and animals live on. Even though this is the smallest layer, it is still very large to humans. The mantle and the crust can be referred to as one with the term lithosphere.
